Meals At The Anchor Nursery

Nurturing healthy habits through fresh, balanced meals

At Golden Apples Family, mealtimes are a cherished part of our day. They offer comfort, connection and a chance for children to explore new flavours in a warm, supportive environment. Every dish we serve is freshly prepared on site by our experienced nursery chefs, following UK Early Years nutritional standards and our commitment to healthy, balanced eating.

We want families to feel confident that their children are enjoying wholesome meals, safe food practices and an inclusive mealtime experience.

 Our Approach to Healthy Eating

Children thrive when they enjoy a varied, nutritious diet. Our menus are shaped around the Eatwell Guide, offering foods from all five main food groups. We focus on:

  • Fresh, seasonal ingredients

  • Low‑salt, low‑sugar recipes

  • Plenty of fruit and vegetables

  • Wholegrains for slow‑release energy

  • Child‑friendly flavours that encourage curiosity and confidence

Our chefs prepare meals daily, and menus rotate weekly to keep things exciting and balanced.

Example Menu

Please see below an example menu. Our menus change weekly and are freshly prepared on site by our nursery chefs.

This example reflects the style of meals children enjoy with us. Each week brings new dishes, seasonal ingredients and a variety of tastes to support healthy eating habits.

Packed Lunches From Home

Some families choose to provide a packed lunch. To keep all children safe and well‑nourished, packed lunches must follow our Food From Home Policy, including:

  • Healthy, balanced foods

  • Clear labelling with name, date/time prepared and allergens

  • A labelled cool bag for safe storage

  • No nuts (we are a strict no‑nut nursery)

  • No shop‑bought or pre‑prepared lunchboxes

If food is not labelled, contains allergens or does not meet nutritional standards, we may need to provide an alternative meal and apply a charge.

Inclusion Through Shared Meals

Mealtimes are a social moment in our day. Encouraging children to enjoy similar foods helps build:

  • A sense of belonging

  • Confidence in trying new foods

  • Positive eating habits

  • Awareness of others’ dietary needs

  • A calm, inclusive atmosphere

This approach also supports safe food management for children with allergies or intolerances.

Working Together With Families

We know that food choices can feel overwhelming, especially with allergies or dietary needs. Our team is always happy to help — whether you’d like to see our weekly menus, need ideas for packed lunches or want guidance on allergens.

Together, we can nurture healthy habits that support children now and in the future.

Policy Review

Our food policies are reviewed biannually to ensure they remain up to date with current nutritional guidance and best practice.
